Onpage SEO Done the RIGHT Way

There are many factors that go into SEO, but they are usually split down into two broad topics

  • Onpage SEO
  • Offpage SEO

Offpage SEO is relatively simple, it is pretty much all about backlinks – which ones are the best to get, how to get them, etc. There is a lot of devil in the detail, but boiled down to it’s essence we mean backlinking.

Onpage SEO is less easy to define. What we mean is everything that effects the SEO of a page, that isn’t done off-page. With such a wide remit, from images to headers, loading speed to keywording, it can be hard to know where to start.

Without wanting to create an exhaustive list of such factors (to do so would take nearly a books worth of information), here we create some quick bullet points that helps you ensure you get the major onpage SEO factors done the right way.

Onpage SEO – the Important Factors

  • Headers – Headers are key. They tell search engines what the title, and the main gist of the article is. You should always be looking to include at least 2 headers in your articles, ideally looking at H1, H2 and H3 tags. Make sure that you also put keywords in the headers – these will emphasise the importance of keywords.
  • Keywords. You want to include keywords for the search terms you are targeting (do you keyword research BEFORE writing an article). Look to include a number of related keywords in the article, and various other hot phrases that relate to it – the more context Google finds the more it trusts you.
  • Link out. Think linking is all about backlinking? No chance. Out linking can be just as important. Google will trust resources that link out to trusted resources – they want to know you are giving a good user experience and providing good information. By linking out to resources Google trusts you are suggesting you are giving what the users wants or needs.
  • Images. More important than you think. Images again show a good user experience, but they can also be used to focus the keywords – with captions, titles and alt headers you can get a lot of keywording done in just one image.
  • Page Speed. You’re going to need the page to load quickly, so don’t include a lot of coding or extra scripts where they’re not needed. And whilst it may not be strictly onpage SEO make sure your hosting is up to spec.

There really are a lot of factors involved in onpage SEO, but follow these 5 important factors and you won’t go too far wrong.

There are many SEO companies around the world.  In the UK, you might try www.ingenuitydigital.co.uk, I’ve had experience with some of their staff, and am quite impressed.
