HVAC systems do much more than control temperature; they also control mould, which has a direct impact on sickness. Fundamentally, employees who are comfortable won’t get as distracted and will have more energy to remain focused.
Trust your Workers
Richard Branson has stated that the main reason why Virgin introduced flexible working hours was to show their employees that they trust them. Having some rules is okay, but strict “no social networking” or “no extended lunch break” policies may be counter productive. Evidence suggests that employees who are granted more freedom in the workplace are happier, which has a positive impact on their productivity.
Incentive programs can be a great way to show employees that you value their efforts, and they don’t even have to cost anything. Giving workers who meet a certain quota an afternoon off, or making them aware of promotional opportunities could be all that it takes. Even something small such as a “worker of the week” award could help them to stay motivated.
Let Everyone Talk
There’s nothing worse than feeling completely left out of a conversation. While an office isn’t a place for socialising, it’s only natural that your employees will want to have a chat every now and then. Get involved and try to stimulate conversation, especially with those who clearly struggle. Getting everyone to feel like part of the team will do wonders for morale. You don’t need to be an expert to understand why happier employees are more diligent and hard-working. The sooner you start thinking about the internal structure of your business the sooner you’ll start reaping the rewards. Profits are driven by your workers, and just like any piece of machinery, they need to be nourished and cared for in order to perform at their optimum level.
