Choosing an Internet Advertising Network

Before selecting selecting an advertising network to submit your application to, you will need to research several items. Following are several items to consider:
  1. What types of ads do you plan to show - if you want to run banners only, you can automatically exclude advertising networks that only run pops.
  2. What is your level of traffic - most of the major advertising networks have minimum traffic levels, largely based on uniques.
  3. Does your site serve a market that advertisers want to appeal to - if you are running a website with a target market of college men looking for free software, you may find that advertisers (and in turn advertising networks) are not interested in. (You may want to consider affiliate programs as an alternative)
  4. Does the selected advertising network have a solid business reputation - as with nearly any segment of business, there are some bad apples among advertising networks. Do the research to see if their existing publishers are paid accurately and on time (view our list of excellent geek resources).
