For those websites that want to take part in the giant e-commerce space that
neither have a product to sell nor want to deal be responsible for selling products,
an affiliate relationship is likely a good fit for you. As an affiliate, you
earn money by directing your viewers to sites that are selling products or
services. Many of the major e-commerce sites on the internet have affiliate programs
to facilitate this type of relationship. Some are offered directly to
website publishers, but the most likely place to find good affiliate
relationships is through an affiliate network.

|
The vast majority of affiliate plans are offered through these networks. The
obvious advantage of affiliate networks to both the publisher and the e-commerce
sites using them is efficiency gains in the payments process. There is significant
overhead inherent in keeping track of all earnings and payments for each website
that send customers to an e-commerce site, so their affiliate plans often have
$50 or more minimums before they will send a check to the publishers. When dealing
with a network, the e-commerce site can send one check to the network, and let the
network be responsible for paying our affiliate commissions.

|
Publishers also gain from joining affiliate networks as they can take advantage of
offers from multiple e-commerce sites. The minimums for receiving commission
checks may still be $50, but by offering a multitude of affiliate relationships to
reach that minimum, it makes it easier for the publisher to reach those levels.
